Wimbledon Championships 2009Ian is chief executive of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which is responsible for staging the Wimbledon Championships, the world's greatest tennis tournament. He has overseen some of the biggest changes to the Wimbledon facilities, including the expansion of key show courts and the commissioning this summer of the multi-million pound retractable roof over Centre Court.

Ian is also a director of Wembley Stadium Limited and an independent director of the Football League. Previously, he was vice-president, global business, of the Associated Press.

Ian read law at Oxford and qualified as a barrister after being called to the Bar at Middle Temple. Afterwards, he developed a long association with television and media organisations, including Granada Television, Yorkshire-Tyne Tees and London News Network. He was the first chief executive of Channel 5 Television, as well as the CEO of Middle East Broadcasting Ltd, managing director of Russell Reynolds Associates and a former chairman of Click4e.com.

Ian has been a director of West Ham United Football Club, chairman of Newcastle Common Purpose; a governor of the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, as well as chairman of the ITV Programme Rights Committee.

Ian, married with two children, lives in Surrey and is a fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts. He enjoys golf, football, tennis, music and theatre.
